ASHTAR - Mandala Partnership
Between the ASHTAR Theater and the founders of the Mandala Theater, there have been many years of fruitful relationship, which began in 2010. When Yasmin Sidhwa directed “The Gaza Monologues” in Oxford, and two of her students participated in the United Nations show in November 2010. In July 2011 – ASHTAR Theatre were invited to Oxford when Yasmin as Director of "MESH" (Oxford International Festival of Youth Arts), brought ASHTAR youth group from Gaza to participate in that festival.
The relationship between the two theaters developed, followed by a number of projects, including a scholarship for a young man from Gaza at Pegasus Theater in Oxford and to participate at the MESH Festival 2012.
In 2014, Mandala Theater worked with the Palestinian Society in Oxford to promote and highlight Palestinian culture, where ASHTAR Theater presented the play "48 Minutes for Palestine" written and directed by Mojisola Adebayo. Yasmin also worked at the Pegasus Theater with a new group of young people in Oxford on a new show of "The Gaza Monologues".
This connection and Yasmin's role as patron of the Oxford-Ramallah Friendship Association was the reason for Oxford's decision to twin with the city of Ramallah in 2019.
Our goal is to continue our relationship for the coming years and to create new connections between our young people, where they will be able to exchange ideas and take on new projects together.
This is in addition to the fact that the cities of Ramallah and Oxford are twin cities now, and the municipalities have a good relationship of cooperation and exchange at various levels. Thus, the long-term relationship between our theaters is attractive not only to our organizations but also to the political level.
Working together on this year's Festival of ARTIVISM has enabled us to use the arts to connect and build strong bonds between young people across cultures.
شراكة عشتار وماندالا
بين مسرح عشتار ومؤسسي مسرح ماندالا سنوات طويلة من العلاقة المثمرة، بدأت منذ العام 2010. حين أخرجت ياسمين سيدوا "مونولوجات غزة" في مدينة أوكسفورد، وشاركت مع إثنين من طلبتها في عرض الأمم المتحدة في نيويورك في تشرين ثاني 2010. وفي تموز 2011 - دعت ياسمين كمديرة لمهرجان "ميش" (مهرجان أكسفورد الدولي للفنون الشبابية) مسرح عشتار مع مجموعته الشبابية من مدينة غزة للمشاركة في ذلك المهرجان.
تطورت العلاقة بين الطرفين وتلاها عدد من البرامج كان من ضمنها منحة غزة الدراسية لشاب في مسرح بيجاسوس في أكسفورد، وللمشاركة في مهرجان ميش 2012.
وفي العام 2014، عمل مسرح ماندالا مع الجمعية الفلسطينية في أكسفورد لتعزيز وإبراز الثقافة الفلسطينية، حيث قدم مسرح عشتار مسرحية "48 دقيقة من أجل فلسطين" من تأليف وإخراج موجيسولا أديبايو. كما عملت ياسمين في مسرح بيجاسوس مع مجموعة جديدة من الشباب في أكسفورد على عرض جديد لـ"مونولوجات غزة".
هذا الارتباط ودور ياسمين كراعٍ لجمعية أكسفورد- رام الله للصداقة كانا سبباً في قرار مدينة أكسفورد التوأمة مع مدينة رام الله في العام 2019.
هدفنا هو مواصلة علاقتنا للسنوات القادمة وإنشاء روابط جديدة بين شبابنا، حيث سيكونون قادرين على تبادل الأفكار والقيام بمشاريع جديدة معًا.
إضافة الى كون مدينتي رام الله وأكسفورد مدينتان توأمان، ويربط بين بلدياتهما علاقة تعاون وتبادل على الصعد المختلفة. وبالتالي، فإن العلاقة طويلة الأمد بين مسارحنا جذابة، ليس فقط لنا ولكن أيضًا على المستوى السياسي.
لقد مكننا العمل سوياً على مهرجان "فن للتغيير" - "Artivism" لهذا العام من استخدام الفنون للتواصل وبناء روابط قوية بين الشباب عبر الثقافات.

Theatre
A blazing stage, and an agent of change
ASHTAR Theatre is a non-profit organization, established in 1991, as a dynamic local Palestinian Theatre with a progressive global perspective. We aim to promote creativity and commitment for change, through a novel combination of specific training and acting programs and professional theatre performances. In 1995, ASHTAR rented a 300 square meters basement in Ramallah and became its theatre house and offices, while spreading its programs to Ramallah, Jerusalem, The Jordan Valley and Gaza.
At ASHTAR we offer intensive theatre training programs for local students throughout the year, often resulting in performances on stage, equipping young Palestinians with essential skills that go beyond acting into self-awareness, confidence, leadership, communication, and team work skills.
One of ASHTAR’S pioneering specialty is Forum Theatre. The purpose of the Forum Theatre is to promote an active dialogue and commitment for change within society. This theatre form engages the audience to interact on stage with essential social and political issues, transforming a commonly passive audience into pro-active and involved participants. Through the use of Forum Theatre, ASHTAR stands as an agent of change in Palestine.
Our core troupe of professional actors performs several high-quality plays during the year introducing new theatre forms in Palestine. Increased cooperation with internationally known actors and directors ensures continuous professional development of our team and the wider theatre community as well as an improved entertainment culture in Palestine. Our sense for continuous renewal and growth is motivated and stimulated by several international awards and increasing requests to perform abroad.
ASHTAR Theatre also functions as an address for local and international film-makers managing the casting process mobilizing our wide pool of young students and professional actors.

عشتار - مؤسسة مسرحية نشأت في مدينة القدس في العام 1991، لتبدأ أول برنامج تدريبي للمسرح موجَه لطلبة المدارس والجامعات في الضفة الغربية. في العام 1993 أطلقت برنامجها في مدينة غزة، وفي العام 1995 افتتحت مقرها في مدينة رام الله، تطورت برامجها عبر السنوات وانتشرت لتغطي الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة إضافة إلى نقلها لتجربتها المتميزة في مسرح المضطهدين الى العالم العربي.
يتطلع مسرح عشتار نحو مجتمع فلسطيني حر ومبدع، يتبنى المسرح كونه رافعة ثقافية وتنموية هامة. كما يسعى لأن يكون المسرح أداة للتغيير والتنمية المجتمعية، وإلى جعله حاجة أساسية في الحياة اليومية للمجتمع الفلسطيني؛ عبر نشر الإبداع المسرحي وتعميقه. مسرح عشتار مسرح محلي ذو رؤية عالمية، يهدف الى بناء الجسور الثقافية مع مسارح العالم وتجارب المسرحيين، والتواصل الإبداعي معهم.
يتحرك مسرح عشتار ضمن ثلاث برامج رئيسية هي: تدريب الدراما – مسرح المضطهدين – المسرح الحرفي، ويحاول من خلال هذه البرامج، الوصول إلى الجمهور الفلسطيني في جميع مواقع تواجده. فإذا لم يتمكن الجمهور في المناطق البعيدة من الوصول إلى مسرحنا في رام الله، ذهبنا بمنصتنا وطواقمنا إليه.
يتركز عمل مسرح عشتار حول إنتاج المسرح والتدريب عليه، ويعتبر تدريب الدراما للطلبة والمعلمين أحد أعمدة المؤسسة وبرنامجها البكر. فمن خلال تدريب معلمي الدراما للمدراس الخاصة والحكومية ومدارس الوكالة، يصل مسرح عشتار الى شريحة طلابية واسعة. كما أن برنامجه تدريب الدراما للفئات الشابة - الذين تتراوح أعمارهم ما بين 12- 18 عام على مدار أربع سنوات في رام الله وغزة، خرّج العديد من الطبة الذين رفدوا الحياة المسرحية في فلسطين. هذا البرنامج يمنح الشباب مهارات ضرورية تمتد إلى أبعد من التمثيل، حيث تساهم في رفع مستوى إدراكهم لذاتهم، وتوطيد ثقتهم بأنفسهم، وتمنحهم مهارات قيادية وأساليب ديناميكية في التواصل والعمل الجماعي.
يتخصص مسرح عشتار بأسلوب مسرح المضطهدين/ المنبري الذي أسسه المخرج البرازيلي أوغوستو بوال والذي يهدف إلى نشر الحوار الفعالّ والالتزام بالتغيير في المجتمع. هذا النمط المسرحي يدفع الجمهور إلى التفاعل مع الممثلين على خشبة المسرح، حول القضايا الاجتماعية والسياسية الهامة، محولاً الجمهور من صفته كمتلقٍ إلى دوره كمشارك نشط. فمن خلال استخدام منهج مسرح المنبر، يقف مسرح عشتار كمحرك حيوي للتغيير في فلسطين.
يقوم مسرح عشتار سنوياً بإنتاج أعمال مسرحية حرفية مع مسارح ومسرحيين من دول مختلفة، مقدماً أشكالاً مسرحية جديدة ومتنوعة في فلسطين تكفل التطور المهني للممثلين ولجمهور المسرح الفلسطيني بشكل عام.
نال مسرح عشتار مجموعة من التكريمات والجوائز المسرحية العالمية وتجول في دول العالم وعرض أعماله في العديد من المهرجانات المسرحية العالمية.

Joining people together to empower, enlighten and transform
We are a diverse-led, Oxford based Charity (CIO). Established in 2015, Mandala produces and tours theatre for local, national, and international audiences and offers training and pathways for young people through employment, creative training programmes and placements. We focus on inclusion and relevance, ensuring young people and performers feel part of a company where their stories are heard, offering pathways and opportunities to those from Black, Asian, ethnically diverse, and White working-class backgrounds to succeed.
Mandala productions involve in-depth research with young people with lived experience and academic research, through our university partnerships. Our work is relevant and current and audiences are emotionally moved by what they experience. Our current show is lyrical and edgy and explores school exclusion and criminal exploitation. Past shows have focused on unaccompanied young people seeking asylum and how friendships are torn apart due to far right extremism.
We offer meaningful, creative, and in-depth dialogue and provocation between young people, academics, audiences and artists - which we believe leads to greater understanding, deep connection and hopefully a policy change in relation to the worlds we are exploring.
We use the power of performance and creativity to change young lives, build communities and foster social justice. We believe that the arts are a force for change and use them to connect people, influence social, policy and system change. We are dedicated to giving young people and artists, a voice, building self- esteem, self-confidence, skills, and aspirations through long-term engagement, changing the cultural landscape for employment in the arts and more widely.

نحن مؤسسة خيرية متنوعة ومقرها أكسفورد. تأسست ماندالا في عام 2015، وتنظم جولات في المسرح للجماهير المحلية والوطنية والدولية وتقدم التدريب والمسارات للشباب من خلال التوظيف وبرامج التدريب الإبداعي. نحن نركز على الإدماج والأهمية، ونضمن أن يشعر الشباب وفناني الأداء بأنهم جزء من شركة تُسمع فيها قصصهم ، ونقدم مسارات وفرصًا لأولئك من خلفيات الطبقة العاملة السوداء والآسيوية والمتنوعة عرقيًا والبيضاء لتحقيق النجاح.

نحن نقدم حواراً هادفًا وخلاقًا ومتعمقًا واستفزازاً بين الشباب والأكاديميين والجماهير والفنانين - وهو ما نعتقد أنه يؤدي إلى فهم أكبر واتصال عميق ونأمل تغيير السياسة فيما يتعلق بالعوالم التي نستكشفها.
